10 minutes a pop, once students are familiar with this activity type
Summary:
Through a think-pair-share process students will summarize each read-aloud chapter and post the synthesized class version to their class twitter account.
At the end of each read-aloud session use a think-pair-share for students to summarize what happened. I'd recommend handing out post-its or 3x5 cards to each student. Make sure the final whole class summary is 140 characters or less
Post the summary tweet to the class account - Publicize the account a few days ahead of time if you have not already been using it.
Optional, post a second tweet with a discussion question for the dinner table (or car ride, or …)
Optional, at the end of the book, have the students create a story chart showing the flow of the main events.
Optional - have students summarize their readers workshop reading as a tweet or microblogging post using Twitter, Tumblr, etc.
Summary rubric showing different levels focused on conveying the main ideas in a logical order that is understandable to someone who has not read the book.
